January 2024 Club hunt

Braving strong winds of 20 - 30 knots, the members of our club embarked on an exciting expedition to uncover a previously unknown Union civil war encampment and skirmish site. Despite the challenging weather conditions, our determination to unearth history prevailed.
Prior to our expedition, we had the privilege of meeting with the owner of the farm where the site was located. He graciously shared with us the historical significance of the area and provided valuable insights into possible battle sites, fortifications, and the locations of previous structures. Armed with this knowledge, we set out on our adventure.
As we delved into the excavation process, we were filled with a sense of anticipation and wonder. With each passing moment, the past came alive before our eyes. Civil war relics, long buried beneath the earth, were gradually unearthed. Each discovery served as a tangible link to the brave soldiers who had once occupied this very ground.
Amidst the artifacts, one find stood out in particular - a Spanish pristeena coin dating back to the 700s. This unexpected treasure added an extra layer of intrigue to our expedition, hinting at a history that extended far beyond the civil war era. It reminded us that the land we stood upon had witnessed countless stories and moments of human existence throughout the ages.
The winds, though relentless, did not deter us from our mission. We pressed on, our muscles aching and our faces stinging from windburn. The physical toll was a small price to pay for the privilege of unearthing and preserving history. Each step we took, each artifact we discovered, brought us closer to understanding and honoring the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
As we concluded our expedition and made our way back, we carried with us a sense of fulfillment and gratitude. We had not only uncovered a civil war encampment and skirmish site, but we had also uncovered a deeper appreciation for the significance of preserving our past. The history found beneath our feet served as a reminder of the importance of cherishing and learning from the stories that came before us.
Our club members may have left the site with windburned faces and sore muscles, but we departed with a newfound reverence for the past. The winds may have tested our resolve, but they could not dampen our spirits. We had embarked on a journey of discovery, unearthing history one artifact at a time, and in doing so, we had become custodians of the past.
Together, we had braved the elements, united by our shared passion for uncovering the hidden stories of our ancestors. As we reflect on our expedition, we are reminded of the power that lies beneath our feet - the power to connect with the past, to learn from it, and to ensure that the sacrifices of those who came before us are never forgotten.
